Global dermatology leader Galderma has announced its agreement to acquire ZO Skin Health for $1.5 billion, marking a significant step in its strategy to expand its professional skincare portfolio and strengthen its presence in the global aesthetics industry. The acquisition reflects a growing trend among major dermatology companies to invest in science-backed skincare brands with strong medical expertise and established professional distribution networks.

Founded by renowned dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi, ZO Skin Health has built a strong reputation for its science-driven approach to skin health. The brand offers more than 40 products manufactured in the United States, featuring ingredients such as retinol and exfoliating acids designed to address a wide range of skin concerns. With over 16,500 professional accounts across more than 40 countries, ZO Skin Health has established a substantial international presence through dermatology clinics, medical aesthetic practices and online distribution channels.

The brand reported approximately $330 million in net revenue for the 12 months ending June 2026, highlighting its strong commercial performance and growth potential. According to Blackstone, which previously invested in ZO Skin Health, the company’s revenue more than doubled during its ownership period, making it an attractive addition to Galderma’s expanding portfolio.

Galderma already owns several prominent dermatology and aesthetic brands, including Cetaphil, Restylane, Dysport and Alastin Skincare. While Alastin is recognized for its peptide-based formulations designed to support skin before and after aesthetic procedures, ZO Skin Health specializes in comprehensive daily skincare programs focused on improving and maintaining skin quality. Together, these brands could enable Galderma to offer a more integrated approach to skin health, combining everyday skincare with professional aesthetic treatments.

According to Galderma CEO Dr. Flemming Ørnskov, the acquisition represents an important milestone in the company’s ambition to develop one of the world’s leading innovative dermatology portfolios. By leveraging Galderma’s global infrastructure, research capabilities and established medical networks, ZO Skin Health is expected to gain additional opportunities for international expansion and product development.

An important aspect of the agreement is that Dr. Zein Obagi is expected to remain involved with ZO Skin Health as its founder and Medical Director. His continued participation could help preserve the brand’s medical philosophy, scientific approach and identity as it enters a new phase of growth. Galderma also plans to increase investment in the brand during the first year following the acquisition, with the aim of supporting longer-term development and growth.

For existing ZO Skin Health customers, no immediate changes to product formulations, availability or skincare routines have been announced. Products are expected to remain accessible through the brand’s established professional and online channels. Looking ahead, joining Galderma’s global dermatology ecosystem could create new opportunities for scientific innovation, expanded product offerings and broader international distribution.

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026 or early 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

Beyond the financial value of the deal, Galderma’s acquisition of ZO Skin Health highlights the increasing importance of clinically oriented skincare within the global beauty and aesthetics market. As consumers seek more advanced, science-based solutions and personalized skincare programs, brands that combine dermatological expertise, research-driven formulations and professional guidance are becoming increasingly valuable.

Ultimately, this $1.5 billion acquisition represents more than a change in ownership. It signals the continued convergence of skincare, dermatology and aesthetic medicine, where scientific innovation, professional expertise and long-term skin health are playing an increasingly central role in shaping the future of the industry.
